Jackson Co Commission Adopts 2014 Budget
10/10/2013

(KNZA)--The Jackson County Commission has adopted a 2014 budget of $13 million that calls for a 1.8 mill increase in the property tax levy.

The action followed a hearing this week drawing no public comment.

The property tax levy increase comes despite a nearly $3.3 million increase in the county’s assessed valuation and is being attributed to unfunded mandates from the federal and state governments.

Commissioners noted additional funding was included in the budget for the Affordable Care Act, although its not yet known exactly how it will affect the county’s current health insurance plan. Also funding was included for additional security measures at the courthouse to comply with the state’s new conceal carry law.
