(KTNC) - People are being encouraged to look to the sky Saturday night. The Falls City Library and Arts Center is inviting astronomy buffs, or novices who simply want to learn more, to an “International Observe the Moon Night” event.
Participants are asked to gather in the south parking lot at Stanton Lake at dusk on Saturday, and to bring binoculars or telescopes as well as flashlights or lanterns.
The Library will provide a large pair of binoculars on a tripod that can be used to view the moon that night. Participants will receive a Moon Map and Viewing Guide that will show features of the moon to look for.
After viewing the moon, participants are then asked to log onto a website to note their observations. That website is “observe the moon night dot org.” (www.observethemoonnight.org)
Observe the Moon Night is organized internationally by a team of scientists, educators, and others from government, non-profit organizations, and businesses. They hope to stay up-to-date with the latest scientific discoveries about Earth’s nearest neighbor and bring those discoveries to the public.
The event will not be held if it rains Saturday night.
