10/12/2013

(KLZA) On Wednesday, October 2, twenty-five students from Falls City High School’s agricultural classes competed in land judging competition in Beatrice.

Students moved about four dirt piles. Once inside the deep pit, the participants were asked to determine the soil type and the slope. Using these elements, they were asked to determine what land class the land could be used for in agriculture.

This years group was very young sending 18 first time land judgers. Cody Schawang, Jessi Scheutz, Bryan Sickel, and Darcy Snethen were red ribbon winners. In addition to the red ribbons, Ben Bauman, Derik Eickhoff, Cody Frederick, Jack Hartman, and Lee Huettner won white ribbons at this competition.

There were over 175 participants from surrounding schools in southeast Nebraska.
