Brown County Courthouse

(KNZA)-- New equipment is purchased for the chip and sealing of Brown County roads.

The Brown County Commission Monday accepted the low bid from Van Keppel Company, of Kansas City, for the purchase of two new Volvo PT125R rollers at cost of $70,178 with trade.  The bid was more than $20,000 lower than one submitted by Berry Tractor, of Topeka.  The main differences in the costs was the allowed trade-in value.

District 2 will pay for the cost of one of the rollers, while the cost for the second roller will be split between Districts 1 and 3.

Bids were also reviewed for a new oil distributor, but it was decided to repair and keep the current machine for at least another year.

And on the recommendation of Commissioner Warren Ploeger, the commission approved the promotion of District 3 road crewman Rodney Allen to the position of assistant road foreman.  His hourly wage will increase 30 cents to $15.05 an hour.
