Benedictine Alum Named Bishop
10/18/2013

(KAIR)--Father Andrew Cozzens, a 1991 graduate of Benedictine college, has been named the new auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis in the United States by Pope Francis. According to a press release from the school, he is the fifth Raven Bishop since 2000.

Father Cozzens was an assistant professor at St. Paul Seminary School of Divinity in St. Paul, Minnesota at the time of his new appointment.

Benedictine President Stephen Minnis says that the school is very excited to hear of the honor bestowed on one of their graduates. He says that it shows that the education received at Benedictine really is forming Catholics at the service of the church.

Cozzens was ordained in 1997 and served in two parishes before moving overseas to Rome for his graduate studies. During his four years there, he earned his doctorate in dogmatic theology and served as chaplain for the Missionaries of Charity.
