(KAIR)--Changes in health care laws have had a widespread effect over the entire nation, and Atchison city employees could soon see some of those effects. Atchison City Manager Trey Cocking says that the city commission will discuss some possible changes to the city's health care plan during their next meeting Monday afternoon. He says they are facing a seven and half percent increase to their heath care costs, mostly due to the implementation of the patient protection act that was enacted in 2010.
In other business, the city will also be looking to make some changes to a couple of city boards, one of which is the Atchison Heritage Conference Center Operating board, which is a board that is in charge of running the conference center's day to day operations. Cocking says they are changing the current structure of the board from the for profit organization that it is currently under, and bring it more under the control of the city.
The commission also plans to hear an update from the downtown coordinator on how her first two months in the job have been going. Also, Stephanie Leaf will be submitting a proposal to put together an advisory group for economic development, and have a group of community members put together to help the city in their economic development efforts.
