(KAIR)--If you find yourself near 5th and Kansas Friday evening and you see a group of teenagers looking like they have no place to go, do not be alarmed. It's simply a group of teens from the Atchison United Methodist Church working to raise awareness for homelessness. Amanda Davis is the youth leader for the church group, and she says that her teens will do this by camping out in front of the church in cardboard boxes, and from about 6:00-10:00 that night, the kids will be holding signs soliciting donations for the local United Way, as well as the church's food pantry.
Davis explains that the teens really wanted to do this after she told them of that she had done something similar at her home church in Illinois. She thought that it would be something that they would do next year, but the teens were persistent, wanting to do it as soon as possible, so after she warned them that it would be a bit cold outside, she gave the go ahead for the project.
If you would like to make a donation, just go to the Atchison United Methodist Church between 6:00-10:00 Friday evening and talk to the teens. They will be happy to accept your donation.
