(KMZA)--The Nemaha County Commission has agreed to move forward on a project to improve emergency radio communication coverage in the Centralia area.
The commission Monday directed Al Haug with Haug Communications to proceed with the installation of a repeater on the state tower located at the junction Highways 63 and 9 east Centralia. Haug will be submitting a finalized quote to the commission as soon as possible for the project.
Haug said a study he conducted found that placing a repeater on the state tower would provide better coverage for the southern part of the county then placing a repeater on the grain elevator in Centralia. In addition, he said the state will let the county place the repeater on their tower at no charge since they are a government entity.
In other business, the commission approved the donation of up to $15,000 from the Broxterman Estate fund to pay for the materials necessary to install a handicapped accessible dock at the Centralia Lake. Volunteers will provide the labor for the project.
The commission also approved the donation of $15,500 from the Broxterman Estate fund to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Nemaha County.
