(KAIR)--The Elks club of Atchison held their sixth annual Veteran's day dinner Monday night in the basement of the Elks lodge. The event honored local vets, but also served as an opportunity to present money to various area law enforcement agencies . Elks member Bob Cobleigh says that the money will be used to buy books, supplies, and anything else that is needed to present anti drug programs in area schools.
The Elks presented $4,000 to be split between the police and sheriff's offices of Leavenworth, Hiawatha, and Atchison. Cobleigh says that turnout at the dinner was lower than usual, something he attributes to the bad weather.
