Two Local Domestic Violence Groups Awarded Grants
11/14/2013

( KAIR)--Two local organizations are among 22 groups that have been awarded grants totaling more than $1 million to help victims of domestic violence.

Atchison-based Domestic Violence Emergency Services or Doves will receive a $33,950 grant and Leavenworth-based Alliance Against Family Violence has been awarded $38,005.

Kansas Governor Sam Brownback's office said Wednesday that the grants come from federal funds and are designed to ensure that victims can receive free services around the clock. The programs provide shelter, support groups, crisis intervention and help in obtaining court orders against abusers.
