(KAIR)--When Christmas day arrives this year, there will be countless kids opening shiny packages underneath the Christmas tree. Sadly, there will also be quite a few children without something to open. The Atchison area Salvation army is working to ensure that that number is as low as possible. Abigal Carter is a caseworker for the organization, and she says that the Salvation Army's angel tree program is in full swing. There are trees in place at the gateway to Kansas as well as the United Methodist Church. If you want to participate, all you have to do is pick and angel off the tree and purchase a gift for the child listed on the angel.
There are a fair amount of families that have signed up with the Salvation Army for holiday assistance, but not all will participate in the angel tree program. Some of the families will be participating in the adopt a family program, while others will be grated access to the Salvation Army's Christmas store.
Carter further says that both programs did not take place last year, but they are pushing to make both better for this year and for the years to come.
If you would like more information about any of the holiday programs organized by the Salvation Army, you can contact Abigal at 913-367-1207.
