(KAIR)--The Atchison county courthouse has been a part of the community for over a century, and as such, it is starting to show some obvious signs of wear and tear. The Atchison county commission hear a presentation from the engineering firm Rose and Associates during their meeting Tuesday afternoon on ways they could help to modernize the courthouse's weather systems.
Commission chair Jeff Schuele says that the commission listened to the presentation, but did not decide on any actions as of yet. They have had a total of three different firms come in to present to them on how they can modernize the building. Schuele adds that this is just the preliminary stage of the process. He adds that while there is more work to be done, there are plans in place to help just in case the current courthouse systems shut down and failed to preform.
In other businesses, the commission also heard from the Atchison Senior House Administrator on how the county's change in employee health plans in 2014 will effect nurse staffing at the facility. She suggested a plan dealing with employee attendance, and will make the proper inquiries to ensure everything fits with IRS guidelines before she proceeds further.
