(KAIR)--After about a month of debate, and on the recommendation of the county solid waste committee, the Atchison County Commission passed a resolution during their meeting Tuesday afternoon, setting solid waste fees for the county in 2014.
County Commission Chair Jeff Schuele says starting on January 1st, fees will be set at $17.50 per half ton of waste, and $12.50 per ton for municipal solid waste.
For those coming from outside of the county to dump waste in Atchison county, the rate will be set at $55.00 per ton of construction or demolition waste and $50 per ton of municipal solid waste.
Schuele also previously the county would not take any out of county trash at all, and a set charge of $300-$400 was assessed to any construction or demolition waste dumped in the county.
Schuele adds that the scale the county uses to weigh incoming solid waste is very close to being completed, with some fine tuning scheduled for this week. Plans are in place to conduct several tests on the scale in the coming weeks so that it is completely ready by the end of the year.
