Doniphan Co to Advertise for New Dual Position
12/05/2013

(KNZA)--Doniphan County will be taking applications for the dual position of county administrator and economic development director.

The county commission voted this week to advertise for the new full-time position.

In other business,  the commission discussed the possibility of selling no longer used county equipment as scrap metal. County Attorney Charles Baskins advised commissioners that the county has the authority to dispose of  such county property—by means of private/public sale or negotiation--following a two week publication in the official county newspaper. The commission requested that County Road Superintendent Bobby Edie compile a list of proposed equipment that could be sold for scrap for their consideration.

And County Register of Deeds Susan Shuster informed the Board she would be microfilming 30 index books, dating back to the mid-1860’s-- at a cost of $9,000.00 and two survey books currently in the Road Engineers Office at a cost of nearly $8,000. The work is to be done by St. Joseph-based Mid-Continent Micrographics.  Commissioner David Van Laar questioned the use of microfilming versus new technology.  However, Shuster said microfilming is the only recognized form of archiving acknowledged by the Kansas State Historical Society.
