(KAIR)--The Better Business Bureau has issued a warning to customers who are doing their Christmas shopping on the popular retail website overstock.com. Spokesman for the BBB Aaron Reese says that overstock.com is a BB acredited business, and a company is using their image to get people to think they are them. They have been using web addresses with overstock dot something to fool people.
Reese says that first of all, if a suspected site does not have overstock.com as the web address, then it is not real. Also, it's a good idea to check with the BBB to see if they have similar complaints filed on the variation of the name you may have encountered.
It is also a good idea to use a credit care when shopping online as they are more protected than most other forms of payment.
The BBB advises consumers to look for “https” at the beginning of the web address on the payment page. The S stands for secure. Also, always type the address directly into your browser. Never click on a link from a social media site unless you are totally certain that it is safe and secure.
In the past year, the BBB has shut down over one hundred fraudulent websites that steall the famous BBB logo and pretend that they are legitimate sites.
