(KNZA)--The Brown County Commission has approved a contract with a Manhattan engineering firm to conduct the county’s 2014 bridge inspections.
The commission Monday approved a contract with BG Consultants to inspect around 190 bridges in the county. The firm will be paid cost plus 10 percent.
Engineer Tom Bennett with BG Consultants says they will begin the inspections in January. The county’s bridge’s are inspected every two years.
In other business, the commission denied a request from Brown County resident Roger Allen for a second extension on his Neighborhood Revitalization application deadline. The commission in November of last year granted Allen an extension until August of this year to complete the project. However, the project wasn’t finished until November, which Allen thought was the deadline.
In denying the request, commissioners said they had never granted a second extension before and were concerned with the precedence it would set.
