(KTNC) -- The Nemaha Natural Resources District Board of Directors approved six well permits during its meeting last week. Five of the wells are for irrigation and one is for a fill pond for wildlife. The wells are located in Otoe, Gage, Nemaha, and Johnson Counties.
The board discussed two surface water irrigation situations.
One situation involves an agreement to irrigate from a special project at Muddy number-10, located south of Auburn. The agreement expires soon and the board questioned the capacity of the reservoir due to siltation over the years.
The other situation involves a potential permit to irrigate from a location northeast of Lorton. The board didn’t act on that, since a permit had not been received before the meeting.
In other action, the board approved an amendment to an agreement with the Lower Platte South NRD. The amendment allows the Lower Platte South NRD to designate a wellhead protection area near Hickman with a boundary that extends into the Nemaha NRD.
The Lower Platte South NRD will provide assistance to landowners within the boundary as long as the landowners abide by the rules for the assistance.
The Nemaha NRD Board approved additional payment of $6,300 to Prange Construction for work on the rehabilitation of a structure on Wilson Creek west of Dunbar. The company submitted a claim for additional expenses incurred due to the federal government shutdown in October and for additional water that was required for the project.
And the NRD Board appointed Scott Kudrna to serve as the Hearing Officer for a public hearing in Auburn on December 18. The hearing concerns the Duck Creek Watershed project.
