(KAIR)--Benedictine College missionary Aaron Lofy and his wife Emily have started off their marriage with a blessing from the world's most well known Catholic figure.
The Kansas couple were given an audience with Pope Francis Wednesday morning, and were interviewed by Good Morning America's Robin Roberts and Josh Elliot soon after. Aaron told Elliott that he was humbled by the meeting. He says that the Pope came up to them personally, asked where they were from, shook their hands, and asked them to pray for him.
Emily says she has been hoping to have this experience for some time. She had heard of it being done from some friends who had done it a few years ago, and she told herself that if she were to ever get married, it was something she wanted to do as well. Pope Francis was made Pope shortly after she and Aaron became engaged, and she says it was just something about him that told them that they needed to make the trip.
The couple says that the meeting was everything they thought it would be.
According to Good Morning America, couples who have been married within the last three months and can show a valid catholic sanctioned wedding certificate can be granted an audience with the Pope.
