(KNZA)--It might be called a case of good following the bad, with national assistance now possible for the fix up of downtown Horton.
The Brown County community's business district disrepair gained national attention following the arrest, and overnight jail stay of 88-year-old Kenny Knudson, owner of a downtown business building cited by the city as a danger to the public.
According to City officials, Knudson failed to adhere to the municipal court judge's directions to develop a plan to address the issue, landing him the December 26th Brown County Jail stay. According to court documents, the issue dates back to July of 2012 when Knudson was first informed through registered mail of the condition of the building's back wall. Twice given notice to fix the problems in 45 days, or schedule a hearing on the matter within 15 days, court documents state neither action was taken.
Knudson has cited lack of finances as the reason for his lack of response.
According to online records, he is also several years delinquent in paying real estate taxes in connection with the building.
An outpouring of public suppport has been shown to Kndson's plight; and, the possibility of national support is growing more definite.
That help is likely to be finalized later this week, and we'll bring you those details once they become a reality.
