(KMZA)--The Seneca City Council has nixed a proposed amendment to the city’s zoning regulations.
City Administrator Matt Roehder says the Planning Commission had made a request to the Council to amend the city’s zoning regulations to allow garages as the primary structure on a residential lot.
The issue was referred to the council’s Planning and Zoning committee, which recommended to instruct the Planning Commission not to hold a public hearing on the proposed amendment.
Roehder says that recommendation was then taken to the council Wednesday evening where a motion was made to direct the planning commission to hold a public hearing. However, he says the motion failed on a 2-3 vote. Voting in favor of the motion were council members Alice Lackey and Bruce Hermesch. Voting no were Ray Shinn, Steve Bennett and Jim Mitchell. Council member Galen Niehues was not present at the meeting.
In other business, the Seneca Area Chamber of Commerce and Seneca Downtown Impact presented their annual report to the council.
Director Courtney Schmelzle says the organization brought more than 5,000 people into town last year for various events they had during the year.
Schmelzle said last year the Chamber had 119 members, up 16 from 2012.
