Bald Eagle Shot in Northwest Missouri
01/27/2014

(KTNC) -- Someone has shot and killed the National Bird in northwest Missouri.

Conservation agent Eric Abbott says the bald eagle was found dead recently near Rock Port.  Abbott says a bullet from a small caliber rifle killed the bird, which he says was not yet mature.  Abbott estimates the bird was approximately four years old.

Abbott says State conservation and Federal wildlife agents are hoping a tip from the public leads them to the person who killed the bald eagle.  He says it’s against the law to shoot any migratory bird, such as hawks and eagles, and it’s a more serious offense to shoot bald eagles, which are the national symbol.
