Rollover Wrecks Leave Three Injured
01/30/2014

(KNZA)--Slick road conditions are blamed for two Thursday morning Brown County roll-over wrecks on U.S. Highway 36, injurying three people.

The first reported crash sent a Hiawatha woman to the hospital.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reports 26-year-old KC Jane Hartley was westbound when she lost control of her Ford Explorer around 8:45 just over two miles east of Fairview.  The vehicle began to slide, crossed the center line, left the roadway, and entered the south ditch where it rolled once.

Hartley, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was transported to the Hiawatha Community Hospital.

Freezing rain was reported at the time of the wreck, with the slick conditions also blamed on another Brown County rollover crash reported just minutes later.
That one occurred just west of Fairiview when 62-year-old Topeka resident Stephen Niehues lost control of his westbound pick-up on U.S. Highway 36.
The Highway Patrol says the truck began to slide and Niehues overcorrected, causing the truck to run off the roadway where it rolled over.

Niehues and his passenger, 70-year-old Meriden resident Russell Alspaw, were both transported to the Sabetha Community Hospital for treatment of injuries.
The patrol says both were buckled up when the wreck happened at 8:50.
