(KLZA) -- Private Pesticide Applicator Training Sessions have been scheduled in Cass, Johnson, Nemaha, Otoe, Pawnee and Richardson Counties for 2014 to provide an opportunity for farmers to renew their license or for initial certification.

The Falls City location has a location change due to Konstantinos Pizza moving. The Monday, February 3 at 1:30 p-m and Friday, February 7 at 9 a-m sessions will now be at the Grand Weaver Hotel at 1800 Stone Street small conference room.

The Thursday, March 20 at 6 p-m session will still be held at the Ag Building in Humboldt. These training sessions will serve as a method for farmers to become informed about recent advances in agronomy. The first two hours of the program will focus on current and important agronomic issues, with the last hour addressing general standards for Private Pesticide Applicators.

Topics that will be discussed include: Roundup resistance in weeds, IPM in crops, new weed problems, invasive weeds, updates on soybean studies, insect and disease issues in soybeans, disease control in corn, insect issues in corn, late season application of nitrogen, results of Soybean Cyst Nematode sampling and yield trials in our area and use of cover crops in cropping systems.

For initial certification or recertification, farmers must attend the complete 3 hour program.  All the locations and dates for Private Pesticide Applicators Training are available at the Richardson County Extension office.  There are 17 training sessions scheduled in the 6 county area.  To find out dates and locations of the sessions, or if you have other questions feel free to contact your local Extension office.
