(KNZA)-- What being dubbed a "Color Splash-Dash" is planned in Hiawatha this spring.
The Hiawatha City Commission this week gave approval to the 5K run, being organized by the Hiawatha High School marketing class as a fundraiser for the proposed new movie theater project.
Class member Nicholas Reese made the presentation to the commission, with several other class members in attendance along with teacher Kathy Lindstrom .
Reese says the event has been set for Saturday, April 26th, with a rain date of May 10th. He says they plan to start the run at the high school, follow a route through town, and end up at the middle school. During the run, the participants will get powered with color along the way.
Reese said the students wanted to support the proposed new movie theater project, or another project if that fell through, such as the concession stand project at the high school football stadium.
Mayor Crosby Gernon says plans are for the commission to hold a special meeting February 24th to vote on placing a special question on the April general election ballot for the new movie theater.
