USD 113 Receives Budget Reduction Proposals
02/12/2014

(KNZA)--Faced with a projected $1.1 million budget shortfall for the 2015-2016 school year, the Prairie Hills USD 113 Board of Education has received a long list of  suggested cuts that could be made to help make up the shortfall.

During their regular meeting Monday evening, Superintendent Dr. Bill Orth presented the list compiled using suggestions from the building Site Councils, faculty and staff across the district.

Among the suggestions were reducing the number of administrators across the district, reducing classified overtime, cutting the number of paraprofessionals,  reduction in the number of coaches and cutting summer school.

In other business, further discussion was held about selling the Bern school.  Following discussion, the board voted to have Orth gather information from local realtors about selling the building and voted to move forward with an auction for the contents of the school.

The board also accepted a $200,000 donation to the district from Kent and Donna Saylor for technology upgrades.

The board reconsider bids received for the purchase of 250 iPad’s.  The board accepted a bid from Apple for $144,750.  The board last month had accepted a bid from Mitchell Appliance, of Seneca, for the iPad’s, but then were told by the business that they were unable to provide the devices to the school district.

The board will hold a special meeting Friday to tour the schools in Summerfield, Axtell, Wetmore and Sabetha.
