Meth Use On The Rise In Atchison County
02/14/2014

(KAIR)--More people in Atchison County are using methamphetamine in some form.

Atchison County Attorney Jerry Kuckleman says that it has become an epidemic in the county and in the past year there has been a dramatic increase.

In the past, Kuckelman says he says he didn't see that many meth cases, and all of sudden, they are popping up on a regular basis. It has definitely become the drug of choice in our communty.

Kuckleman says there are several reasons as to why methamphetamine has increased in popularity. It has become so easy to produce. He says you can walk into most stores with $50 and get all the ingredients you need to produce all the drug you need for at least a few weeks. The actual production method has also become much easier. People can now make it in their homes with the old cook methods that produced a distinct smell now no longer used.

Kuckleman adds that there are many different ways people introduce the drug into their body, including smoking it, injecting it with a syringe, and snorting it. He has even heard of one case where someone placed the drug in an eyedropper and placed it into their eye.

So far in 2014, eight methamphetamine cases have been filed with the Atchison County Attorney's office.
