Tax Abatement Approved for Sabetha Area Company
02/20/2014

(KMZA)--A 10-year property tax exemption has been granted on a recent expansion by a rural Sabetha company.

Following a hearing Tuesday drawing no public comment, the Nemaha County Commission approved the tax abatement for KSI Conveyors, Inc, which manufactures equipment for grain handling.  Northeast Kansas Rural Development Association Director Nancy Gafford said the company has already added 10 new job.

Virginia Dienstbier, administrator for the KanStep grant that Nemaha County Fire District #2 is applying for to construct a new fire station in Corning, came before the board. Dienstbier told commissioners she ran into a problem with the environmental review for the grant and the process will need to be redone.

The updated document will be published and will be on file in the Nemaha County Clerk’s office through the end of business on March 7th for anyone from the public to review and comment on.

And the commission opened bids to conduct the county’s biennial bridge inspection.  Bids were received from three engineering firms. The commission approved the low bid submitted by Central Kansas Engineering to inspect the 334 bridges in the county for $68 a bridge.
