(KTNC) -- Nebraska Public Power District will operate the electric system in Humboldt for the next quarter century, after the Humboldt City Council approved a 25-year franchise agreement with NPPD Tuesday night.
The agreement grants NPPD the exclusive right to build, maintain and operate the electric light and power system in Humboldt for the next 25 years.
The Humboldt City Council also authorized the city and Southeast Nebraska Development District to collect data that would support a pre-application for a housing rehab grant. The city is seeking funds to allow low-to-moderate income residents to rehabilitate or demolish their homes.
In other action, the council approved 11 model ordinances prepared by the League of Nebraska Municipalities as presented by City Attorney Vic Faesser.
The council also approved a request from Diane Merwin to place a memorial bench in the City Square Park. The granite bench will be in memory of Merwin’s mother, Mary Durman. The memorial’s location has yet to be determined.
The council tabled action on a request from the HTRS School to vacate a right-of-way. The school asked the city to vacate the right-of-way on the north and west side of the school, as the school prepares for its building addition. The council tabled the matter after questions were raised about utilities in that area.
