Plans for New Nemaha Co Jail Proceed
02/26/2014

(KMZA)--Plans for the construction of a new 30-bed plus Nemaha County Jail are moving forward.

The County Commission Monday approved seeking proposals for a construction manager at-risk for the project. Proposals will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on March 14th.

The project will consist of an about 16,000-square-foot addition to the existing county Law Enforcement Center in Seneca at an estimated cost of $4 million.

Sheriff Rich Vernon says the county has outgrown their current facility, originally built to hold 10 prisoners in 1978

Commissioners hope capital outlay funds will cover the cost of the new jail addition.
