(KAIR)--Atchison Police Sergeant David Enzbrenner tragically lost his life in the line of duty over two years ago, but a section of Kansas highway could soon be renamed to honor his sacrifice.
According to Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson, the department traveled to Topeka a few weeks ago to present testimony before a house committee on transportation in reference to a bill that would establish a stretch of US Highway 7 between Atchison and Troy as the Sergeant David Enzbrenner Memorial Highway. Wilson says the bill went before the full house Thursday where it did pass.
Wilson says the process will now be repeated in the state senate. Testimony will be presented to the Senate Transportation Committee within the next week followed by a presentation to the entire Senate.
Wilson adds that funds have been raised to not only provide the Kansas Department of Transportation with the money to install the signs for the highway, but also with money to fund them for years to come.
