(KMZA)--The Nemaha Central Board of Education this week approved the final resolution in the process to close the B&B Junior/Senior High School at the end of the current school year.
That follows a hearing held last month at the B & B main gymnasium, which drew no public comment.
The board decided last year to close the B & B facility at the end of the 2013-2014 school year, and to sell the building to Highland Community College for use as a regional education site. Superintendent Darrell Kohlman says the sale of the building is moving along as planned.
Beginning this August, all USD 115 students will be attending school in Seneca.
In other business, Kohlman presented several pieces of information related to the additional funding the district has received due to the freeze of the general fund as a result of consolidation.
The final fiscal year for the freeze will be next school year. Current calculations show the district has gained nearly $879,000 in the current fiscal year compared to what both districts would have received without the freeze. Cost cutting measures to date were also presented. Staff changes plus the closure of St. Benedict Elementary and the pending closure of B&B school will save about $690,000 in general fund expenditures.
