(KAIR)--Several cattle that were penned up near the Atchison Animal Clinic escaped their enclosure Wednesday afternoon, and led both clinic staff and Atchison Police officers on a chase that lasted several hours.
According to Police Chief Mike Wilson, six cows escaped through an open gate, but their freedom did not last long as all but one were recaptured soon after. Two were apprehended in the 700 block of Santa Fe, one at Eighth and Santa Fe, one in the 1000 block of North Second, and the fifth was captured at Eight and Riley.
Wilson says several bystanders, including a Benedictine College Student attempted to assist in the chase.
The sixth cow, who managed to avoid capture, is still at large.
