(KTNC)-- As the political campaign season heats up in Nebraska, the Department of Roads is issuing a reminder that it is against the law to put political campaign signs – or any signs – on state highway right-of-way.
Those signs often proliferate along roadsides in the weeks before an election.
Department of Roads maintenance crews will remove signs that are improperly placed within state highway rights-of-way. The department will store the signs temporarily at maintenance yards, where owners can reclaim them.
The right-of-way reminder also applies to errant plantings or harvesting operations, parked equipment or salvage items, commercial sales, private business stands, garage sale signs, and debris.
For further information regarding the boundaries of right-of-way corridors, or for permit information, contact the Department of Roads District headquarters.
