( KNZA )--A September jury trial has been set for a Hiawatha woman accused of aiding and abetting in a Brown County identity fraud and phone harassment case.
Amanda Gunderson pleaded “ not guilty” Monday in Brown County District Court to two felony counts of aiding and abetting identity fraud and a misdemeanor count of aiding and abetting phone harassment. District Judge John Weingart set a jury trial in the case for September 17th. Three days have been set aside for the trial.
Gunderson is accused of aiding and abetting Troy resident Molly Smith. Smith pleaded no contest March 7th to eleven counts contained in an amended complaint including one count of criminal threat, two counts of identity fraud and eight misdemeanor counts of harassment by telephone. She is to be sentenced April 21st.
Brown County Attorney Kevin Hill said Smith assumed a false identity in order to text various individuals in the Hiawatha area last year, sending harassing and threatening messages.
Both women were arrested in November following an investigation by the Brown County Sheriff’s Department and remain free on bond.
