(KMZA)--The Nemaha County Commission on Monday reviewed the conceptual plans for a new 32-bed jail, and hired a construction manager at risk for the project.
Jeff Lane with Treanor Architects presented the plans for an about 15,000-square-foot facility that will be attached to the current county law enforcement center in Seneca. The project would also include renovation of 1,000-square-feet of the existing facility.
The commission voted to accept the plans as presented and have Treanor move forward with the design development phase.
The commission also voted to enter into an agreement with Bern-based AHRS Construction for pre-construction services at a cost not to exceed 85-hundred dollars. Three firms were interviewed last week to serve as construction manager at risk for the project. Commissioner Gary Scoby, chairman of the selection committee, recommended that AHRS be awarded the job, saying they are the best fit.
The firm will prepare a cost estimate for the construction of the jail addition. Based on that figure, the commission will decide whether to proceed with the project which they plan to finance through existing capital outlay funds.
If the commission decides to proceed, Lane said construction documents should be completed by the 1st part of July. The project would then be put out for bid.
Lane is hopeful construction can begin in late August or early September.
