Signs to Soon Mark Historic Trail in Doniphan Co.
04/25/2014

(KNZA)-- Signs will soon mark the original Oregon-California Trail through a portion of Doniphan County.

Representatives of the Doniphan County Historical Society met with the County Commission this week to discuss the installation of the 59 signs that will mark the historic trail.

It was agreed a county road and bridge department employee will assist the Historical Society in erecting the signs along about 20 miles of county right-of-way.

The Kansas Chief reports that generally the roads between just north of Wathena and the intersection of K-7 Highway and 230th Road will be signed.

The nearly 22-hundred mile long Oregon-California Trail from  Missouri to Oregon and California, enabled the migrating of the early pioneers to the western United States.
