(KNZA)--The city of Hiawatha has a new fire chief.
The Hiawatha City Commission Monday evening unanimously approved the appointment of Don Koontz to the position along with the re-appointment of other city officials. Koontz, who has been with the Hiawatha Fire Department for 10 years, replaces Bill Roland.
The Commission re-appointed John Defore as Police Chief; Vivian Constable as City Clerk; Don Cashman as City Attorney; Mike Riley as Municipal Judge and Debbie Parker as City Treasurer.
The appointments are for two-year terms. Following the appointments, all were sworn into office.
In other business, the Commission approved appointments to the city Planning Commission. Appointed as a new member was Hillary Boye. Re-appointed were Joe Koechner, Denise Wolney, Dean Bailey, Jere Bruning and Jill Sprick.
And the Commission approved appointments to the Board of Zoning Appeals. Appointed as a new member was John Schuetz. Re-appointed to the board were Helen Sourk, Andy Delaney, and Rod Spellman.
The appointments to the Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals are for terms expiring in 2017.
