05/07/2014

(KLZA) -- Falls City businesses are advised to be on the lookout for counterfeit 20-dollar bills.

36-year-old Andrew Lear of Hiawatha was arrested Saturday in Falls City on a felony forgery charge after a local convenience store clerk became suspicious of bills used to pay for merchandise. Police believe the bills were used in several businesses.

Tuesday more counterfeit 20-dollar bills were discovered in Falls City.  Assistant Police Chief Jamie Baker says the investigation is continuing.  He urges businesses to contact the Police Department if they come across suspicious bills.

Baker says the color of the counterfeit bills is brighter than a normal 20-dollar bill. He advises businesses to check bills for watermarks and the security stamps before you accept them as payment.
