Atchison Recycling Plan Moves Forward
05/07/2014

(KAIR)--Single source curbside recycling is one step closer to becoming a reality in the city of Atchison.

Last month, Kansas Governor Sam Brownback signed a bill approved by the legislature that would allow the city to start the new method sooner than current state law allows. Atchison Public Works Director Justin Pregont says that while they are optimistic the new process will become a reality, officials are still moving forward under the old law just in case there are objections from residents during a public hearing scheduled for July of this year. He says that if someone does object to the plan during that hearing, then the city would still be bound by the old state law.

Barring any objections, the new method could be started soon after the hearing, though issues with obtaining the needed equipment could push the process back.
