(KNZA)--An area state representative has announced he will not seek re-election, while two other area state representatives have filed to retain their seats.
St. Marys Republican Richard Carlson, who represents the 61st District, say he will not seek another term. The district includes portions of Jackson and Pottawtomie Counties.
Carlson has served in the Kansas House since 2004.
In a recent legislative report submitted by Carlson, he said its time for a new resident living in the 61st District to serve as the district’s representative in the Kansas House.
Meanwhile, State Representative Jerry Henry filed Monday for re-election. The Cummings Democrat, who represents the 63rd District, has served in the Kansas House since 1993.
Also 62nd District State Representative Randy Garber has filed for re-election to another term. The Sabetha Republican has served in the Kansas House since 2011.
Candidates have until noon, June 2nd to file.
