Horton Man Convicted On Felony Drug Charge
05/07/2014

(KNZA)--A Horton man has been convicted on a felony drug charge.

Gabriel Whedbee pleaded no contest this week in Brown County District Court to a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to sell within 1,000 feet of a school.  In exchange for the plea, two other drug charges were dismissed.

Sentencing is set for June 2.  Brown County Attorney Kevin Hill says sentencing guidelines call for presumptive prison.

Whedbee had originally pleaded " not guilty" to charges in the case, and a jury trial had been set for June.

Meanwhile, a co-defendant in the case, Horton resident Gary Scotton, is to be sentenced May 30th on a felony charge of possession of hydrocodone with intent to sell within 1,000 feet of a school.

He pleaded no contest to the charge in March.  In exchange for the plea, another drug charge was dismissed.

The two men were among five adults and one juvenile arrested last October following the execution of a search warrant on a Horton residence.

That followed a joint investigation between the Horton Police Department and Kickapoo Tribal Police that later involved the Brown County Sheriff’s Department.
