SENDD to Continue Code Enforcement in Humboldt

(KTNC) - The Falls City Rotary Club honored some of the top seniors from Falls City Sacred Heart and Falls City High School during the annual awards banquet Thursday night at the Richardson County Historical Museum.
Eight students were recognized: Kathryn Bieker and Jarod Fiegener from Sacred Heart and Kirstyn Buchholz, Mitchell Harling, Reese Hogue, Madison Olberding, Cody Schawang, and Brooke Scheitel from Falls City High School.
The Rotary Club presented scholarships to four students. The Rotary Scholarship was presented to Reese Hogue; the Nellie Ebel Memorial Scholarship to Mitchell Harling; the Louis Ebel Memorial Scholarship to Madison Olberding; and the Wilber Roesch Math Scholarship to Kirstyn Buchholz.
Peru State College President, Dr. Dan Hanson, was the guest speaker. In brief remarks, he told students to find something they’re passionate about, find meaning in serving others, and prepare to be surprised.
The Southeast Nebraska Development District will continue to provide code enforcement in Humboldt, after action by the Humboldt City Council Tuesday night.
The City Council approved a resolution to appoint SENDD as the city’s Code Enforcer through April 15, 2015.
Code Enforcer Emily Bausch was at Tuesday’s meeting. She provided the council with an update on properties that have not been brought into compliance with city codes. There are about a dozen properties on that list.
The council approved resolutions prepared by City Attorney Vic Faesser that levy special assessments against two properties. The resolutions allow the city of Humboldt to recoup the cost to clean up the properties.
The Humboldt City Council also approved the slate of officers for the Humboldt Volunteer Fire Department for the next year.
Rex Kappel will be the Chief, Rick Dettman will be the Assistant Chief, Larry Stauffer will be the Secretary-Treasurer, Danny DeJonge will be the Steward, and Tom Dettman, John Snoke and Trent Phillips will be Trustees.
The council also approved two change orders and a payment of $45,390 to Van Kirk Brothers for work on the new water transmission main.
