(KAIR)--An Atchison man accused of sex crimes involving a a 13-year-old girl has been sentenced to three years in prison.
19-year-old Richard Scott was sentenced Friday in Atchison County District Court.
At the completion of the sentence, Scott will be placed on supervised probation and be required to register as a sex offender, both for life.
Scott was originally charged with rape in January of this year after the Kansas Department of Child and Family Services received a call that an alleged rape had taken place at an Atchison residence in the fall of last year. The Atchison Police Department investigated, and Scott was arrested.
Prosecutors reduced the original charge of rape to aggravated indecent solicitation of a child, after the victim's family requested that the charge be dropped. Scott plead guilty to the reduced charge in March.
