(KTNC) - The Nemaha Natural Resources District Board approved one well permit application last week, but postponed action on six other applications.
The board granted approval for a well north of Burchard in Pawnee County. The board delayed action on six other applications, even though they all scored above the required 201 points required under the district’s ranking system.
The Pawnee County Rural Water District expressed concern about the proximity of one of the proposed wells to its new wells. The NRD Board will seek more information before considering that application.
NRD officials say some revisions are needed to the ranking system it uses to consider well permits, to better address all the variables that go into assessing whether a well is viable.
The board has yet to approve any changes to the ranking system, which was approved just last year.
Since district rules require well permits to be acted upon within 60 days, the six applications will be considered at the board’s June 12 meeting.
