(KTNC) -  The Falls City School Board approved employment contracts with several new teachers and accepted the resignation of a longtime educator Monday night.
The board approved contracts with elementary teachers Emily Hutfles, Breanna Scholl, and Laura Simon; Middle School Physical Education and Health teacher Nick Kraft, and new Curriculum Director Shelly Leyden.
The board accepted the resignation of High School English teacher and District 56 Curriculum and Technology Coordinator Judi Carter. Carter has been with Falls City Public Schools for 35 years. Her resignation is effective October 31.
With the end of a school year, several veteran teachers and staff members are leaving the district. Superintendent Tim Heckenlively thanked those who are moving on to other positions or retiring. The list includes several longtime staff members who are retiring: High School PE teacher and Athletic Director Darwin Palmer, High School Science teacher Tom Weinert, Title I and South School teacher Marilyn Scholl, Middle School Consumer Science teacher Karen Flynn, District Technology and Curriculum Director Judi Carter, Nutrition Services Director Carol Zimmerman, and South School Para-educator Cindy Santo.
Those teachers and staff members had a combined 190 years service to the Falls City School District.
Monday night was also the final board meeting for North School Principal Ernie Valentine, who has accepted a position in David City. In his report, he noted that there were 52 future students present for Kindergarten Roundup on May 2.
He said four additional students are also enrolled in Kindergarten for this fall that could not attend Kindergarten Roundup. He estimated there will be approximately 60 Kindergarteners at North School this fall.
