NWS Confirms Nearly a Dozen Tornadoes in Nebraska Sunday
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - At least 11 tornadoes have been confirmed in the storms that carved their way across eastern Nebraska on Sunday.
The National Weather Service released a preliminary report on the tornadoes Tuesday, but more may be added to the total after the rest of the damage is examined.
The weather service says the tornado that did extensive damage in Beaver Crossing generated winds up to 140 mph and was rated EF-3 on the enhanced fujita scale. The strongest possible rating is EF-5 for storms with winds over 200 mph.
Two other tornadoes that touched down near Sutton and near Exeter were also rated EF-3, but they produced peak winds of 150 mph.
The Nebraska Emergency Management Agency estimates the storms caused at least $20 million in damage.
