(KNZA)--Not working for profit or recognition, but only for the betterment of the Hiawatha Community.
That's the idea behind a newly formed organization, known as the Hiawatha ACES, planning to launch a summertime lunch program for local children.
“Hiawatha ACES actually stands for the Hiawatha Allied Community Enrichment Society,” organization president Ian Schuetz tells MSC News. “That's kind of a mouthful, so we prefer to just go by ACES.”
Vice-President Angie Gilpin says “It's basically to get the community together to help enrich the community. It's open to anyone and everyone, businesses, individuals, schools, the city.”
The first order of business for the Hiawatha ACES is to offer a summer lunch program for all area children.
Working with the Second Harvest Community Food Bank in St. Joseph, they will offer nutritional meals, free of charge, to anyone up to age 18. The program will be held each weekday, from June 2nd through July 25th, except for the Fourth of July.
The ACES organization is currently seeking volunteers, including both individuals and groups, to help serve the lunches. Those wanting to volunteer can call 785-741-1099 for more information or sign up here.
More information can be found on the ACES Facebook page.
