St. Joseph Business Owners Planning For Smoking Ban
05/15/2014

(KAIR)--As the date for the St. Joseph city wide smoking ban approaches, business owners are trying to find ways to comply with the new rule without losing too much business.

According to KQ2-TV,  owners are looking for ways to add outdoor smoking areas to their property to keep business brought in by smokers. The St. Joseph Community Development Department will oversee any changes that local business owners want to make to their property. Director Clint Thompson says the department will meet with any business owner that wants to add an outdoor smoking area to their building, and make sure the proper regulations that go into constructing a new building are followed.

He adds that the city will look at current codes to see what can be done to work with the businesses.

The city wide smoking ban was approved by voters in April, and is set to take effect June 7th. The ban would ban all smoking indoors at bars and restaurants, with some exceptions, including the St. Jo Frontier Casino gambling floor.
