Kansas Highway Patrol

(KNZA)--Two are dead following a double vehicle head-on Atchison County crash Tuesday afternoon.

It happened on U.S. 59 Highway, just north of 238th Road, about six miles southwest of Atchison shortly before 3:15.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says 77-year-old Topeka resident Richard Jacobs was driving a Ford Explorer when he went left of center and collided head-on with a Pontiac Grand Prix driven by 25-year-old Atchison resident Joel Wilburn.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Patrol says Wilburn was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck, but Jacobs wasn’t.
