Axtell's Detweiler Seeks FFA State Officer Role
05/27/2014

(KMZA)--An Axtell FFA Chapter member is one of 20 candidates seeking the position of state officer.

David Detweiler will compete to represent more than 5,700 Kansas FFA members for the 2014-2015 term.

That will be done through, what a press release calls, an intense process of interviews, tests and public speaking demonstrations during the 86th Kansas FFA State Convention, to be held this week on the campus of Kansas State University, running Wednesday through Friday.

An appointed nominating committee, comprised of former state officers and agricultural education instructors, will interview the candidates, submitting its nomination of 10 candidates to the state convention delegates, consisting of two members from each of the 172 chapters in the state.

That's set to happen Friday, and will be followed by the delegates electing six members to serve as the state officer team.

The new team will be announced at the final session of the convention Friday afternoon.

Once elected, the officers will travel the state to promote agricultural science education and FFA.

Detweiler, the son of Richard Detweiler and Jackie Fliney, is a three year FFA member who has served as Chapter President.

He plans to attend K-State next fall, where he will major in Chemical Engineering and minor in business, leadership studies and physics.
